Horse Thief Apprehended

On this date, Detective Cham Buchanan received a report of a stolen horse and horse riding equipment that had occurred earlier at approximately 1:00 a.m. The horse, named Royal Muchacho; was described as a sorrel mare, pure bred quarter horse. She was stolen from Double H Farms (owned by Paul Higginbottom). The riding equipment was stolen out of the Diamond M. Arena, LLC (owned by Ed Mobley). Both businesses are located on Saddle Club Road in Sharp County; Ash Flat, Arkansas. 

Multiple businesses along Nix Ridge Road, and College Drive provided security camera footage of a male riding a horse matching the stolen horse's description. The video retrieved from Mr. Tidy's Carwash displayed a white male carrying a blue bag, wearing a light colored cowboy hat, blue jeans, and light brown sleeveless shirt with a large light colored picture on the front. Mr. Mobley was present when the video was being played back at Mr. Tidy's. Mr. Mobley stated the male subject was Justin Schamel. He stated Mr. Schamel had worked for Tri County Farm and Ranch in the past; and was familiar with his business, as well as Mr. Higginbottom's business. Detective Buchanan located an address for Mr. Schamel in Fulton County; Mammoth Spring, Arkansas shortly after.

 At approximately 2:00 p.m.; Detective Buchanan, Detective Sgt. Bailey, and Officer Turnbough of Mammoth Spring Police Dept. arrived at the Schamel residence. Viewable from the road; a saddle sitting on the side of a truck, along with a horse matching Royal Muchacho's description was located in the back yard. Contact was made with Mr. Schamel, and his mother, Kim Razinha. Mr. Schamel was immediately advised of his Miranda Rights. Mrs. Razinha stated Mr. Schamel had just brought the horse to their house at approximately 8:00a.m. At the time of contact; Mr. Schamel was wearing a shirt matching the shirt in the video footage, a blue bag matching the blue bag in the video was located on the driver's seat of Mr. Schamel's vehicle. A light colored cowboy hat matching the hat in the video was also located on the property. The horse had all of the distinguishing markings described by the owner. After confirming descriptions of stolen property the owners' had provided; contact was made with both owners, and the

Mr. Schamel was taken into custody, and transported to the Sharp County Detention Center. During a Post-Miranda interview; Mr. Schamel ultimately admitted to taking the horse and equipment due to lack of transportation. Mr. Schamel is being held at the Sharp County Detention Center on the following charges: Theft of Property, 2 counts and Commercial Burglary, 2 counts.
