Ash Flat Shooting

On January 5 2013 at 4:32 A.M., Central Dispatch received a call of a motor vehicle accident on Highway 62 in Ash Flat. When officers arrived on scene, they found the driver of the vehicle Severin Simpson deceased in the drivers seat with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. A female passenger in the vehicle advised officers that two other people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident and had fled the scene. During the investigation officers learned that Christopher Bryant, a passenger in the vehicle, had shot Severin Simpson while the vehicle was in transport.

On January 5 2013 at 1:36 P.M., Central Dispatch received a call from a motorist advising of a male subject fitting Christopher Bryant`s description cross Highway 62 and walk into the woods near Branscum Road. Officers responded to the area and Christopher Bryant was taken into custody without incident. Christopher Bryant is currently being held in the Sharp County Jail on a First Degree Murder Charge.

The body of the victim is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.

The Ash Flat Police Department, Sharp County Sheriff’s Department, Arkansas State Police, Highland Police Department, Cherokee Village Police Department and the Arkansas Game and Fish assisted in the investigation.
