On June 16th, Betty Eve Roark age 35 of Salem was arrested for felony theft. After receiving a complaint from a local business where Ms. Roark used to work, Sheriff Counts along with the company bookkeepers began to notice discrepancies in the companies financial records. Ms. Roark worked for Gill's Ready Mix and Gill's Backhoe Service, and was the only person handling the business accounts. According to the company owner, Doug Gill, Ms. Roark was caught using the company credit card to make personal purchases in 2009 and 2010. Ms. Roark ran up approximately $10,000 on mr. gill's credit card. That incident was not reported and Ms. Roark was making restitution to Mr. Gill. Ms. Roark quit on March 10th of this year and that is when the discrepancies were discovered. Sheriff Counts found that Ms. Roark had taken approximately $57,000.00 from the business. Ms. Roark was arrested and booked into the Sharp County Jail where she was later released on her own recognizance.
