Sharp County man flees from deputies

Eric Nelson

Amanda Bivins

On February 1st, 2011, Deputy Gary Mitchell was traveling south on Hwy 167 near Cave City when he spotted a Green Gran Prix being driven by Eric Nelson, age 37 of Cave City. Deputy Mitchell had knowledge that Mr. Nelson had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Deputy Mitchell turned around and was attempting to initiate a traffic stop when the vehicle began to speed up and flee. The Gran Prix reached speeds in excess of 80 MPH. The pursuit ended up on E. Cardinal Rd. and then onto Mockingbird lane. Deputy Mitchell caught up with the vehicle on Mockingbird Lane where the driver, Eric Nelson drove the vehicle into the ditch and stopped due to the bridge being closed for repairs. Mr. Nelson fled into the woods. The passenger attempted to flee by jumping out of the vehicle before it came to a stop. She was immediately taken into custody and was identified as Amanda Bivins age 31 of Cave City. Ms. Bivins had minor injuries as a result of jumping from the moving vehicle but refused medical treatment. Sheriff Counts along with officers from Cave City responded to the area and attempted to locate Mr. Nelson. At approximately 7:00pm deputies learned that Mr. Nelson was now at his residence. Deputies went to the residence and located Mr. Nelson who had been out in the woods and was cold and wet. Mr. Nelson was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Sharp County Jail. Amanda Bivins was charged with fleeing on foot. Eric Nelson was charged with Felony Fleeing.
