On March 26th, 2010, Sharp County Deputy Eric Pickle along with probation and parole officer Dennis Burton responded to the Motor Center Motel in reference to an absconder at that location. They went to room # 10 and found 30 year old shannon Marie Asher and her 3 month old son in the room. A search of Ms. Asher's room was conducted per the conditions of her probation. Officers located some illegal drugs in the room. Deputy Pickle also noticed that the infant appeared lathargic. D.H.S. was contacted and advised of the observations made by Deputy Pickle. The infant was taken by D.H.S. personell and checked medically. A blood screen was conducted on the child and found thatthe child tested positive for Diazapam (Valium) which was one of the drugs found in Ms. Asher's room. The Child was treated medically and later placed in foster care. On March 29th, Det. Sgt. Ken Guidry and Special Agent Wendall Jines of the Arkansas State Police conducted an interview with Ms. Asher. During this interview Ms. Asher admitted to giving her 3 month old son small pieces of Valium on tow separate occassions because of the child severe colic. A complaint affidavit charging Ms. Asher with interduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person, a class C felony. and endangering the welfare of a minor, a class D felony. At last report, the child had recovered from the medication and was doing well.
