On February 16th, 2010, Deputy Gerald Traw responded to River Bend Park to investigate multiple burglaries of camper trailers at the park. Deputy Traw gathered information on the 25 trailers that had been burglarized. During his initial investigation he learned that two golf carts were missing. A short time later, Cherokee Village Officers Jeremy Rose, and Chris Spurlock, came across two males pushing golf carts on Yancopin circle near Walla Walla Dr. The two were identified as Duane Hamm age 19 of Hardy and Vincent Prokop age 19 of Cherokee Village. Detectives from the sharp county Sheriff's Department and the Cherokee Village Police Department responded to that scene and determined that the golf carts had been taken from River Bend Park. Det. Sgt. Mark Counts and Det. Sgt. Ken Guidry along with Det Wendall Lane interviewed Hamm and Prokop. During these interviews the name of a third suspect involved was obtained. Detectives located Christian Zipprian age 19 of Hardy. Mr. Zipprian cooperated with investigators giving them additional information about the crimes. On February 17th, Detectives with Sharp County Sheriff's Department and Cherokee Village executed a search warrant at the home of Duane Hamm and recovered property taken from the various campers at River Bend Park. Detectives were aided by Mr. Hamm during the search Warrant in identifying the stolen property. Det. Sgt. Counts commented that this was a good example of multiple jurisdictions working together. And estimated $1000.00 worth of stolen property was recovered. The estimated damages caused by the three suspects to the campers is estimated at several thousands of dollars. Investigators are obtaining a warrant for the arrest of Christian Zipprian. It was reported that all three suspects had recently enlisted in the U. S. Army. Hamm and Prokop are currently in the Sharp County Jail. On 02/18/2010, Christian Zipprian had been arrested and is currently in the Sharp County Jail. Additional victims are contunuously coming forward. No other crimes have been linked to these suspects at this time.
