Authorities investigating shooting in Sharp County

Johnathan "Bo" Hensley

2000 Kia Sportage

Sharp Counties Central Dispatch received a 911 call shortly before midnight friday. The caller advised that someone at Baker's Cemetary Road and Ark Hwy 175 had been shot. Spring River Ambulance, as well as Deputies and officers from Hardy, Highland and Cherokee Village responded to the area. Officers found a female in her twenties injured with an apparent wound to the head. The victim was identified as Stephanie Like of Colt, Arkansas. Ms. Like was transported to the White River Medical Center in Batesvile. Det. Sgt. Ken Guidry and Det. Sgt. Mark Counts responded to the scene. Special Agent Wendall Jines of the Arkansas State Police was also called to the incident. Based on statements from various witnesses involved both directly and indirectly in the incident, officers began looking for Johnathan Hensley. Mr. Hensley was located at his residence on Bakers Cemetary Road a short time later and arrested. After interviewing witnesses in this incident Investigators learned that Johnathan "Bo" Hensley and his wife Jessica Hensley had recently been estranged. Ms. Hensley went to Hardy with her sister, Erika Downey to meet a relative to loan him money. After meeting this relative She then got into a 2000 Kia Sportage driven by Stephanie Like. After turning onto Baker's Cemetary Road, they met a green Chevy Blazer being driven by Johnathan Hensley. As they slowed down to meet with mr. Hensley he stuck a .243 rifle out of the window of his vehicle and fired one shot into the roadway infront of the Kia Sportage. According to witnesses he then fired three more shots into the Kia Sportage. One of the bullets struck the roof of the vehicle causing the bullet to fragment. Some of the Fragments struck Ms. Like in the head and face area. The injured driver then moved to the passenger's side of the vehicle as Mr. Hensley began to back his vehicle away. They then drove to 695 Ark Hwy 175 and called 911. Upon further investigation Investigators found bullet holes in Mr. Hensley's vehicle. Investigators then leaned that one of the passenger's of the Kia Sportage had produced a small handgun and returned fire when Mr. Hensley began firing at the vehicle. That shooter was identified as 20 year old Keith Adam Hernandez of Colt, AR. Mr. Hensley when interviewed at the Sheriff's Department stated that he had gone home and found out that his wife had left the residence to go meet some people. Mr. Hensley learned that one of the persons was a male that Ms. Hensley was seeing. Mr. Hensley admitted to taking his rifle out and shooting at the vehicle. Mr. Hensley then requested an attorney and all questioning ceased. Mr. Hensley is being charged with Criminal intent to commit first degree murder. No charges have been filed against Mr. Hernandez for returning fire. As of 12/12/09 at 7:00am, the victim Stephanie Like was being held for observation at White River Medical Center in Batesville, her injuries were described as not life threatening.
